Nelson Tasman Housing Trust

The Trust was established as a community response to declining housing affordability in Nelson and Tasman. We work in partnership with the New Zealand Government, local councils, Housing New Zealand and other agencies to improve access to good quality, affordable housing to those on low incomes and people with special needs. We also see a need to address emergency accommodation and energy conservation.

Energy-efficient, healthy homes

The objective of our Healthier Homes Project is to promote healthy homes through energy conservation. 500 homes in Nelson and Tasman have enjoyed the benefits of improved health and lower power bills thanks to this initiative.

Affordable, community housing

Future Plans

The Trust has secured further capital funding from Canterbury Community Trust towards its second affordable housing development, and is currently building nine more affordable homes for rent in Richmond and anticipates that these will be completed in early 2009. It is also in negotiations to develop another affordable housing scheme in Nelson and hopes to provide up to 12 new homes in 2010/11.

Nelsonian of the Year 2007

NTHT is delighted that our chairperson, Kindra Douglas, was voted 'Nelsonian of the Year' for 2007. 65 nominations were made to the Nelson Mail and Kindra was selected for her work throughout the year with the Housing Trust, Victory Urban Village Project and the Victory Community health Centre. The selection was made by a panel which included both mayors of Nelson and Tasman and the editor of the Nelson Mail.
Congratulations, Kindra!
