A grant from the Nelson City Council will enable the Nelson Tasman Housing Trust to press ahead with a planned development of 10 new affordable rental homes in Dodson Valley, Atawhai. The council has approved a grant of $1 million to the project, from its Housing Reserve fund. We are delighted to announce that we've signed a contract to buy two properties in Totara St, Nelson, on which we plan to build six new rental homes. The sites at 6 and 8 Totara St are being sold by the Nelson City Council. Each section currently has a single old house on it. Our plan is to redevelop these adjoining sections and build a mix of two, three and four-bedroom homes (see image above). The Nelson Tasman Housing Trust recently joined forces with Habitat for Humanity Nelson to make a pitch to the Nelson City Council to allocate more of its Housing Reserve funding. The Nelson City Council has approved a proposal to make $2 million of its housing reserve fund available for housing projects catering for low-to-moderate income households. Nelson Tasman Housing Trust director Carrie Mozena told councillors she strongly supported the proposal, at a council meeting this week.
