Nelson Tasman Housing Trust hoping for injection of funds 

June 17 2017: The Orchard St development is one of seven developments owned and managed by the Nelson Tasman Housing Trust. The Rata Foundation gave the Trust $200,000 in 2015 to help ensure the project could go ahead, and the trust purchased the land from Housing New Zealand. The Nelson City Council also provided funding support.

Housing Trust to build homes in Stoke 

Oct 26 2016: Six “affordable” housing units are set to be built on a former state housing site in Stoke.

The Orchard St site previously held two-storey Housing New Zealand buildings, which were torn down around 18 months ago after being six years unoccupied.

Nelson Tasman Housing Trust purchased the land from Housing New Zealand and has just been granted resource consent for four one bedroom homes and two double bedroom houses.

Nelson Tasman Housing Trust chair Dave Johnston says the news has been welcomed.

Nelson Tasman Housing Trust Secures 25-year Contract as Stoke Build Progresses

Oct 19 2016: Eight people in need could soon occupy warm, dry and affordable homes as the Nelson Tasman Housing Trust wins a new government contract to provide social housing.

Plans for six apartments – two two-bedroom units and four one-bedroom dwellings – have been underway since the trust purchased land on Orchard St, Stoke made available by the demolition of earthquake-prone Housing New Zealand properties there in 2014.

Rata Foundation donation essential to Nelson Tasman Housing Trust project

Dec 24 2015: A generous donation to the Nelson Tasman Housing Trust has     provided essential funding for the trust's newest project, its director says.

The Rata Foundation, formerly known as the formerly the Canterbury Community Trust has given $200,000 to Nelson Tasman Housing, which builds and lets houses to low-income tenants at reduced rents.

Trust director Keith Preston said the donation would contribute greatly to an upcoming six-house build to replace demolished state homes on Orchard St.

New Nelson Tasman Housing Trust homes ready for tenants

Dec 14 2015: "The $1.2 million St Lawrence St build - funded by a $550,000 grant from the government's Social Housing Fund and an ASB mortgage - brings the trust's portfolio to 39 houses".

Three families get keys to new homes

Feb 21 2015: It's moving in day for Jeanine Brunwin and her 3-month-old twins. The young mother is one of three tenant families who were unlocking the doors of brand new homes in Nelson's Kawai St today. They are the culmination of a partnership between the Nelson Tasman Housing Trust, Jennian Homes, Housing New Zealand and the Nelson City Council.

Clearing the way for new housing

Feb 19th 2015: The Government's social housing policy is in action with the demolition of a block of three state houses in Orchard St, Stoke, which could be the start of a regeneration of the area.

The homes were demolished yesterday, and the Nelson Tasman Housing Trust wants the site to build five new homes, the beginning of what it hopes will be a much bigger project.
