Looking after smoke alarms

All our homes have smoke alarms, which are there for your safety, so please don't remove or disable them.

We regularly check the smoke alarms, but if you want to test them at any time, just press the test/reset button for about 2 seconds. The alarm will sound. When you take your finger off the button it will have reset and the light will blink continuously.

Get in touch with us if:

  • The red light stops blinking.
  • There is no alarm when you press the test button.
  • The smoke alarm makes an unusual noise or chirps continuously.

If you set the alarm off accidentally, for example by burning toast, open the windows to let fresh air in. You can also wave a tea towel or something similar next to the smoke alarm's sensor to clear the air there.
